Throughout the game, follow along here for score updates, highlights, and more. Tonight has a significant bearing on the College Football Playoff race, as Virginia Tech could be the hardest remaining test on the unbeaten Fighting Irish’s schedule.
The Hokies are getting 5 yards per play to the Irish’s 4.4. It’s been an evenly played game, even with a slight edge in quality for Virginia Tech. But the Irish have a defensive touchdown, and that’s slightly shifted the balance of the game for now.

The No. 6 Notre Dame Fighting Irish have felled two ranked opponents already this season, and will have another chance at it when they travel to face the No. 24 Virginia Tech Hokies on Saturday. The game is set for 8 p.m. ET on ABC (live streaming via WatchESPN).
Notre Dame is coming off a 38-17 win over then-No. 7 Stanford, 38-17. They were well in control of that game, and Saturday’s showdown against the Hokies is, at the moment, their only remaining game against a ranked opponent.
Virginia Tech owns some good wins thus far this season, besting then-No. 19 Florida State in their opener and, most recently, downing No. 22 Duke, 31-14. The Hokies gave up 495 yards and four touchdowns to Old Dominion backup quarterback Blake LaRussa in a shocking 49-35 loss that dropped them down the rankings.
Below is all you need to know to watch on Saturday.
- Time: 8 p.m. ET
- Location: Lane Stadium, Blackburg, Va.
- TV: ABC
- Streaming: WatchESPN
- Odds: The Fighting Irish opened as 5.5-point favorites, and the line has moved to have them favored by as much as 6.5 points.
In the latest S&P+ rankings, the Hokies are 35th in the nation at 8.8 points. Notre Dame, on the other hand, is ranked ninth, with 19.5 points. This implies a 10.7-point advantage for Notre Dame on a neutral field. Virginia Tech should be able to make it a battle, but smart money is on Notre Dame.
