Hey everyone! First time posting here, so hopefully I’m doing this right.
For the last few months I’ve been thinking about a small pet. I’ve mostly been considering small rodents like gerbils, hamsters, and mice, but I’m open to other pets too. I had a few rats and a guinea pig growing up and adored all of them, but that’s about the extent of my experience with rodents.
A little about me/my lifestyle if it helps: I’m currently a college undergrad living in a large apartment with a few other roommates. I do have a cat, but the new pet would be kept in my bedroom and the cat is trained not to go in there (plus my door is always shut). I’m home most of the day both during the week and on weekends, so I could dedicate a decent amount of time for the animal’s care. Since I’ve been thinking about this for months, I have squared away some money that should be more than enough to pay for a cage, food, and bedding (within reason). Space isn’t a huge issue since, like I said, my apartment is pretty big and so is my bedroom. However, I’m not really interested in something like a rabbit or ferret because they take up a lot of space compared to, say, a hamster.
There is one small issue, and that is that I will be moving out of this apartment after I graduate in two years. This means that the pet and related equipment must either be relatively easily movable or (and I hate saying this but I can’t think of a better way to phrase it) have a life span of two years or less.
On that lovely note, I’d love to hear your recommendations, thoughts, and advice!
