Congrats to Bohemian Rhapsody, for it is the most popular movie in America right now!
The Queen biopic is the box office champion now this weekend, reaching a $50 million launch across North American box offices, making it the second biggest start ALL TIME for a music biopic right behind Straight Outta Compton‘s $60.2 million!
Overseas it did even better, landing $72.5 million across the globe for a worldwide grand total weekend take of a whopping $122.5 million in its very first weekend!
Not too damn bad, considering it’s much better than expected for the Rami Malek-starring film that follows the legendary British band.
It’ll be a high note to end on for 20th Century Fox, too, as they are now absorbed into new owner Disney; Bohemian Rhapsody marks their biggest domestic opening outside of Deadpool 2 in more than a year’s time!
The rest of the box office paled in comparison to the Queen flick, with The Nutcracker and the Four Realms relatively bombing into second place at $20 million, after costing more than $125 million to produce.
The Tiffany Haddish flick Nobody’s Fool came in third place, turning out just $14 million — which marks a disappointment for the movie, and one of the lowest openings of filmmaker Tyler Perry‘s otherwise prolific career.
What about U, Perezcious readers?! Did U go see anything in theaters this weekend??? Let us know in the comments (below)!!
