California man accuses Starbucks of printing racial slur on his cup

There’s more trouble brewing for Starbucks after a Latino man in La Canada, Calif., claims he discovered a racial slur written on his cup.

Instead of Starbucks putting his name, Peter, on his brew, the man says the word “BEANER” was written across his cup label earlier this week.

Peter’s friend told CBS2 News he’s “sad” in the aftermath of yet another troubling incident.

“That’s not fair,” the friend added through a translator.

Patrons at the Southern California Starbucks were dismayed by the accusations — especially following a recent incident that prompted the coffee giant to schedule racial bias training later this month for its employees.

“This is not indicative of the type of experience we want our customers to have when they walk into our stores,” Starbucks told CBS2 News in a statement. “We have apologized to the customer directly and are working to make things right.”

The embattled company faced backlash last month after a Philadelphia Starbucks called the police on two black men for sitting in their store without ordering.
